Getting to La Paz

We spent two nights in Copacabana, Bolivia enjoying a nice meal at La Orilla the night before. As I said, this town is very much a backpacker and hippie hang out, very colorful with lots of hostels, restaurants and shops selling all things Bolivian. Our hostel was fine, although the 'lake view' was a little obstructed with wires and such, but it was still a nice place.

It was a 3 1/2 hour trip by bus to La Paz. We had to cross Lake Titicaca at its Southern point. Our bus went across on a separate barge powered by an outboard engine and it looked a little dubious as to whether or not it would make it. Mind you, the ferry for us wasn't all that much better, but the ancient Evinrude sans cover proved itself worthy and we crossed without incident.

La Paz is at 3,900 meters and is the largest city in Bolivia and the highest city in the world. We'll spend a couple of nights here before heading out to Sucre.
