Work Mode to Vacation Mode

Jens and I had been in executive jobs for a long time and are so driven by results and getting things done that it has been difficult to slow down. Despite reminding ourselves not to, we are inclined to making plans and of course we set rather ambitious targets. Didn't we leave the world of KPI's and stretch targets behind! Having made such a radical change to our lifestyle we knew we would have some adjustments to make. It has taken us some time to really get to grips with the 'slowing down' factor.

So now we have decided to slow things down. Not a little but a lot. We are spending too much time getting from here to there and not enough time enjoying where we are. As we should have expected, there are also repairs and maintenance to be done on a boat of this age and Jens spends a lot of the time when we are in a port or at anchorage sorting this out and very little time relaxing and exploring the nice places. I am also still learning to sail and feel a bit apprehensive about making the Pacific crossing on our own just now.

The revised plan is to take our break during the summer this year instead of at Christmas, spend the time at the cottage and enjoy a nice Canadian summer. We'll be home from end of May to around mid-August.

After the summer we will continue to sail the Caribbean together with Anna and Christian (Jens' daughter and her boy friend) visiting the Leeward Islands that we missed on our way to Bonaire, head up to BVI again, this time visiting the US Virgin Islands as well. We will cross to the Pacific in February next year, visit Galapos as planned and then continue.
