Off trekking today; yesterday we visited Quinta San Pedro

We'll be away on various excursions and will be not back to internet before Friday, April 20th. Be ready for a lot of photos after that. We are spending the day in Minca tomorrow and we will be trekking for six days to Ciudad Peridad before heading off to Cartagena for four days.
Today we spent more time exploring Santa Marta and went to Quinta San Pedro Ferdinandina which is the place where Simon Bolivar spent his final years before dying of tuberculosis at the age of 46. Quinta San Pedro was a sugar mill and rum making plantation which has been preserved and is now a museum and botanical garden.
We also went to the Gold Museum. It was a small but interesting exhibit of gold jewellery and items made by the Tayronas. By the way, I was wrong in my previous blog. Not all of the Tayronas perished when the Spanish arrived. More on that in an upcoming episode.
Don't you love these statues of the Tayronas. They look so muscular and have incredibly large feet.
