Spanish for 'cape of sails' Cabo de la Vela is the half way point to Santa Marta. We arrived around 10 am and spent the day snoozing after a 24 hour sail from Aruba. We had caught a lovely Big-eyed Tuna not long after we left Aruba. Dinner was tuna steaks and Curried Chickpea Cakes. Delicious! And, yes, the Curried Chickpea Cakes are home made. It's a super simple recipe and a nice change from potatoes or rice.
We had a visit from the local fishermen in the bay. One fellow came by our boat in his dug out wood canoe which he paddles out to set his nets and the only equipment on board is a plastic bottle he uses to scoop out the water. They live a very basic life. His t-shirt and pants were thread bare. We gave him a can of coke and some candies for his children and then he asked Jens if he had a shirt he could give him. We gladly gave him a Segwun t-shirt. Some of his amigos came by in another boat and asked for bread and cokes. We were happy to share what we had, but were also a little worried that we would see many more visitors. As it turned out, they were very respectful and didn't harass us at all.
Just another beautiful sunset.
And my favorite awkward birds, the pelican. They came into the bay in the morning for a little fishing.
